Best.show.ever. [16 Jan 2008|12:34am]

[ mood | calm ]

Hey, so I went to see them at the Orpheum in Vancouver last night, and it was such a moving experience that I wrote a short piece for my creative non-fiction class on the ferry back. I've posted it here in its glory.

Also, if you are one of those smart people [ie-not me] who actually brought a camera in, can you share your pictures? I did get a pretty good recording of "Rain Down On Me" on my phone, though. If you weren't there, Jim was encouraging people to record, so keep that in mind if you're going to any of their shows this tour. :D

Photos [05 Jan 2006|11:18am]

I took some photos at the Blue Rodeo concert in August at the Molson Amphitheatre, Toronto which you can view here.

And I also recently went to see the Jim Cuddy Band perform at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto on December 18. I didn't know until I got there but it was Jim's 50th birthday celebration and they had balloons everywhere, a "happy birthday" sing-a-long and many special guests (such as members of Blue Rodeo and Molly Johnson, among others). I even spied Greg by the side of the stage and could not resist going over to meet him. I figure, when else am I going to be in such a small venue where that would be possible? Anyway the photos are here.

PS, if the links lead to the wrong photo album, just use the scroll down menu and find the right one.

I'm originally from South Carolina, so I had never heard of Blue Rodeo until last year when I came to Toronto to live with my fiance. At first I thought they sounded like a ripoff of the Eagles, but I started to listen to the lyrics. Some of the lyrics are so beautiful and Jim's voice is heaven. <3

I quickly fell in love with Bulletproof the minute I heard it. Unfortunately when my fiance and I went to see them in concert they did not perform it. Matt Mays did a pretty good job opening up for them, but it seemed like I was one of the only people who even knew who Matt Mays and the El Torpedo Band were! :P

Long story short...I've fallen for Blue Rodeo. :)

Hello everyone.

I’m surprised and delighted to find a community dedicated to Blue Rodeo. I’ve been a fan ever since I picked up a copy of Five Days in July, way back in 1997. It remains one of my all-time favorite albums. It’s hard for me to pick a favorite song, but I’d say “Bad Timing” and “Five Days in May” are at the top of the list. I commend you all for having such exceptional taste in music. It’s great to be a part of this community. :)

Pleased to Join! [08 Jul 2005|03:20pm]

Hi everyone!

Like most of you, I have been a huge Blue Rodeo fan for many, many years and am consistently pleased with the vibrant energy that they bring to each new album and show. I have seen them live many times and each time has been fantastic! I live in Peterborough, Ontario and love the scene there. I even got to see Greg sing solo at my favourite bar, the Only Cafe (and Gordon Best).

I also have a hard time choosing a favourite song. I am pretty in love with Cinema Song from The Days in Between.

I'm very happy to be a new member of this community!

Sad Nights [10 Jun 2005|10:11pm]

I'm a long-time, and big-time Blue Rodeo fan. I would be hard pressed to name a favourite song, because it's probably always changing with me, and there are so many. But I'll tell you one song that speaks to me, and I think was underrated from the "Days in Between" cd, and that's "Sad Nights."
Having lived in Chicago for two years now, and being perpetually homesick for my beloved west-Toronto, I've come to really appreciate all the lyrics which have been so relevant to me.

"... Somewhere there’s a gunshot, people scatter everywhere.
But it happens everyday so there’s still laughter in the air.
And as I lay down I wish you were here.
Here comes sad nights again..."

Intro post: fandom, new album, the tour! [22 May 2005|12:08am]

[ mood | ecstatic ]

Greetings fellow Blue Rodeo fans!!!!

I'm delighted to find this community. Not many people I know (apart from my mum) are diehard Blue Rodeo fans, and so this place is a great one to find.

I've been a fan since I was about six years old, thanks to the fandom of my mum. When I was a kid my favourite song was "Last Laugh", which is kind of disturbing I guess when you think about the lyrics, but that's okay. I've always had particular affection for Greg, but of course ALL the guys are cool. It's darn near impossible to pick a favourite song nowadays, but certainly "Stuck on You" off the new release has been speaking to me as of late.

Speaking of the new album: yeah, I think it takes time for it to grow on you, but it's well worth it. I bought it the day it came out -- got up early and everything -- and listened to it SEVEN TIMES in one day. It's really hard to pick a favourite tune, but "Beverley Street" is such a fun song to sing, and "Runaway Train" served as a soundtrack when I was taking a bus trip to the States in April -- I was totally imagining myself as the girl in the song. (So I guess it should have been "Runaway Bus" then, eh? ;))

What songs from the new album have they been playing in concert on this tour? Which ones have turned into the "concert hits"? My prediction was that "Rena" and "Are You Ready" would be the biggies. And for my money, "Don't Get Angry" is Jim's next "Bad Timing." My family's got tickets to see them at Hamilton Place, but I can't remember what day we're going and I may not be able to go after all!!! :( Stupid driving lessons interfering with Blue Rodeo...or at least potentially...

Anyway, I should wrap this up. Great to find this place, and enjoy the shows, those of you lucky enough to go see them!!!

about bluerodeo.com tickets [12 May 2005|08:47pm]

I know a bunch of you probably order your tickets through the website too...for the best seat deals. I'm just wondering how long it usually takes til we find out where our seats are. I'm seeing them in Antigonish next weekend & the suspense is killing me! I can hardly wait to find out where my seats are. I know they're good, I just want to know how good. :)

How long did you have to wait to get an email about where your seats are?

I'm Kirie. I put Blue Rodeo as an interest, thinking that there couldn't possibly be a community for fellow fans but apparently there is! My first memory of TV all together is watching the "Lost Together" and "Rain Down On Me" vids on TV back when they were new, so that should tell you how long I've been a fan. I've been to three concerts and between me and my mum we own every album on either CD or tape[in some cases both-Tremolo, Five Days, Lost Together]. My one friend found out the extent of my fan-ness when whenever we drove by English Bay, I skipped back to the song[forcing her to listen to it five times in two days when she had never heard more than 'Hasn't Hit Me Yet' on the radio]. Oh yes....I once did a report on them for school in grade five.
I hope I don't sound too obsessed. I'm not. I just know what I like.

See you!

[23 Apr 2005|01:11pm]

I just wanna say hey to everyone around here. I've been a fan of Blue Rodeo since I was very young. My dad took me to a show when I was 5, and I was miserable the whole time, and couldn't understand why I had to sit still for so long. Luckily, I grew up and went to see them again when I was 11, and then on my 18th birthday.

Now, I've got tickets to the May 6th show in Moncton, New Brunswick. I can't wait.

It's hard to choose a favorite song, but Hasn't Hit Me Yet is up there on the list.

The Best Part.. [18 Apr 2005|01:56am]

The best part of a Blue Rodeo concert is when we all sing "It Hasn't Hit Me Yet"
